The Client
MoCo is a privately owned limited company and one of the leading distributors and suppliers of mobile phone services in the UK.
Formed in 1985, the Company was awarded one of the first BT licenses for mobile services and began selling to businesses and other dealers in the South East and in areas of West London. Since then the business has developed into a thriving, nationwide, multi-functioning company covering both business and distribution.
The Challenge
The operating system that had previously been used to manage all their sales, ordering and stock control, connections and revenue streams had been DOS based: a Disk Operating System that dominated in the 1980s but became out-dated from the mid-nineties.
‘Commission’ plays a vital role in the success of MoCo and in this diverse market it’s crucial that any company knows exactly what is due to them from a sale before passing any commission on to the individual dealer or sales person.
There are a huge number of matrices impacting on commission: handset sales, network time, internet connection, SIM cards, phone repairs, upgrades, individual tariffs and additional text and accessory bundles are just a few areas that generate their own commission levels.
Under the old system, when a dealer made a multiple phone purchase and all those phones were connected to their relevant network suppliers the commission was worked out manually because the operating system was unable to complete the task automatically. The resulting levels were then input into the system before any actual commission could be paid out.
It was therefore crucial that any new system could accurately predict the level of commission available from any of the networks as well as from any of the associated services.
As MoCo’s position grew in this highly competitive market place they brought JIT Consulting in to evaluate the existing system and to put in place a multi-functional, automated operating system that was fully future-proofed.
What we did
After several months of in-depth analysis JIT were able to design a solution, oversee its development and co-ordinate migration of the entire business to it. A web-based front end was designed that not only acted as a ‘shop front’ but also acted as an indicator for sales and order tracking.
With the new system a dealer can make a multiple phone purchase - the order is automatically shipped out to them. Each handset has its own MoCo assigned SIM card so the system knows automatically from the supplier when the handset has been activated because every statement of connection from a network supplier is automatically imported into the new software and checked against the database. Discrepancies can then be rectified and commissions received/paid.
At this stage, MoCo’s operating system knows exactly the level of commission it will receive from the network supplier and what commission the dealer should receive from them. The process is entirely automated resulting in improved accuracy and increased productivity.
The key supplier requirement for MoCo was to source a company that understood the industry and its complexities, could provide in-depth analysis of the problem, develop a solution and provide a project management service that would deliver on time.
As a result of their success, JIT Consulting provides on-going support for MoCo and is now developing an e-commerce website that will sit on the operating system retailing handsets.
Each of JIT Consulting’s solutions is bespoke. There is no off-the-shelf product that is tailored to meet a requirement. We work closely with all our clients in order to ANALYSE their problem, provide a SOLUTION, CREATE the product and DEVELOP the system.
